I safely and easily arrived in Santiago. Even with sleeping on the plane, I was still quite tired though. It's a long flight from Miami but somehow not long enough to get a good night's sleep.
I'm staying at The Singular which is the same hotel Butch and I stayed at the last time we were here. It's a great choice and one of my favorite hotels.
Since I've already done the typical city tour, my guides took we to some of the culture museums to learn more about the history of Chile. The first museum had a single exhibit completely dedicated to the impact of the horse in Chilean life. I could not have asked for a better exhibit. I think the guide learned more from me than I did from him.
Back at the hotel, I knew what my first drink would be. Chile and Peru might argue over who invented it but a Pisco Sour never disappoints. I discussed recipes with the bartender and he does recommend the powdered egg whites.
I did some shopping in the street market by my hotel. For dinner, I went to a restaurant recommended by my guide which specializes in Pisco cocktails. After discussing ingredients and settling on a cocktail
I ordered the next thing I was looking forward to... ceviche.
The Chilean ceviche often has corn in it. Don't ask me what kind of fish it was but it was tasty. The also use a spicy pepper sauce in addition to the fresh citrus. So good. I topped it off with some short ribs.
At this point, I could barely keep my eyes open so off the bed it was. Today, I am visiting Valparaiso which is often called the San Francisco of South America. I'll bring my fleece jacket.
