Chris and Henry in Kenya - Day 2

Today, we had 2 game drives. The morning session was from 6:30 to 11:30 and the evening from 3:30 to 6:30.  Most of the animals seek shelter from the sun during the day so there's not much point in going out in the middle of the day.

In total, we saw 2 different prides of lions, a leopard, cape buffalo, hyenas, zebras, jackals, mongoose, elephants, hippos, an eagle large enough to carry away a lamb, giraffes, and various kinds of antelope.  We drove around like an hour looking for rhinos and never found any.  There are 15 rhinos on that side of the river and somehow they managed to disappear in the wide open plains.

This pride of lions had just finished eating and were quite lazy sleeping with their full bellies.

This is a mother giraffe with her weeks old baby

This is a hyena following the lions to eat the scraps from their kills.

Female leopard. The guide said she had a cub but we could not find it.

This is the father of the cubs we saw yesterday.  We watched 3 of the females from this pride stalk a warthog but then eventually they lost interest to let it live another day.

We also saw a breeding pair of lions but they just slept the entire time. The male sleeps on its back like Gizmo; I guess it's good to be the king.

To disprove the old adage that all babies are cute, I present exhibit A - the baby hyena.

However,  2 of them playing together does earn some cute points

Hippo yawns are the best

Tomorrow, we leave early to watch the wildebeest migration across the Mara River.
