Chris and Henry are in Nairobi

After another short flight on a small plane, we are spending the day in Nairobi before a very early flight tomorrow morning to Chyulu Hills.

Our last game drive included an entire lion pride feasting on a buffalo. There's the male, the females and 3 cubs enjoying the feast.

In Nairobi, we visited the giraffe center and the Karen Blixen museum.

I thought we'd learn something about giraffes at the Giraffe Center but we just fed them.  I knew that Karen Blixen was a real person and that Out of Africa was her life story but I did not realize it was filmed here in Kenya at her actual house.  Our hotel, Hemingways, is on what was part of her estate.

It's nice to spend a night in a real hotel after the tent camps.

We finally found out what those really hot peppers we've been eating are.  They are bullet chili - Seen here in a mango chili mojito.

Time to compare the tent camps...

The Gorilla Sanctuary in Uganda wins the overall prize.  It won points for electric blankets, completely local staff, food and amenities.  It lost points for poor internet service and the hike up to the room.

The Little Governor's Camp in Masai Mara won points for drinking water tap in the room, internet service, the view and visitors from animals at night. It lost points for the manager being a Tom Willis knock-off (you know - from the Jefferson's) with a Scottish accent, not as good food, a broken promise of having an African dinner and the tent being really cold at night.

We had our first dinner in a restaurant, Carnivore.  Henry picked it.  It is like a Brazilian steakhouse where they keep bringing you meat on skewers.  However, they cook the meat in a giant open smoke pit in the middle of the restaurant and they have some exotic choices in addition to beef, lamb, pork, chicken, and turkey.  We had ostrich, crocodile and the odds on favorite to win worst dish of the trip, ox balls.

We have another early flight in a small plane tomorrow morning.
