Chris and Henry learn to cook curry

Nothing.  That's really what we did today.  The rest of the trip is quite hectic so we decided to take a rest day.

The food at this hotel is quite good.  Exhibit A: Breakfast

Besides hanging around and swimming, we had a cooking class with the hotel chefs.  They taught us to make fish curry and dhal curry.

We had the finished product for lunch

You can see Lion Rock from the grounds of the hotel

We also needed a break from our guide.  He's a good guide and very knowledgeable but we find that the conversations with the Sri Lankans become awkward quickly.  They are passionate about their country and want us to love it as much as they do which is great. However, their language is unique in the world and they don't learn English in school.  Many of the people learned English later in life so it is difficult to have a conversation with them beyond the basics. And that would be fine too if the people were not so friendly.  What happens is that you quickly run out of things to talk about and they just stand there and smile at you.  So... awkward.

Tomorrow, we have a long drive up to the tea country.

Dinner last night. Chicken with brie, pumpkin cumin soup, jackfruit sorbet, corn quesadilla, coconut cake.

Also, they have a local alcohol called Arrack.  It is distilled from coconut flowers. It is quite nice. I'll bring some home.

Internet service has been spotty at best. Hoping the next hotel has decent Internet service.
