We started the morning with a visit to the Tsukiji Fish Market with Chef Oba. The chef showed us around as he was selecting fish to serve for dinner tonight. We will go to his restaurant tonight to eat the fish we selected with him.
After the market, we walked around the Ginza area which is basically Tokyo's Fifth Avenue.
We then took the metro to visit character alley under Tokyo Station. We became hopelessly lost under Tokyo Station. We eventually found character alley but then could not figure out how to get back. This is when we started to realize that Tokyo is insane. There are entire shopping malls underground. We stopped to buy some flavored popcorn. I seriously considered dropping some popcorn on the floor after we walked in circles a few times. We eventually found some signs pointing to Otemachi which is where our hotel is. Google maps only half works in the underground passages.
We spent the afternoon wandering around Harajuku which is yet another neighborhood with shopping and weird cafes. So much of Tokyo is steeped in the anime culture.
Lunch at the Monster Cafe. Anyone who had Chris will say "I'll have the eyeball cocktail with rainbow pasta" before the week is out wins. The pasta was not horrible but I did not go for seconds on the eyeball cocktail.
Check out the creepy decor at the monster cafe. And, yes, that is a lamb drinking from a baby bottle over Henry's head.
Last stop this afternoon was a hedgehog cafe. Basically you pay money to hold hedgehogs. We left after 20 minutes because we found it kinda cruel.
Dinner tonight is sushi with Chef Oba. I don't expect to like it and assume that I'll be eating something later at the hotel.
