Chris and Henry get attacked by deer

This was our favorite day so far.

Took the Kintetsu Limited Express train south to Nara.  Nara Park is a huge park with many shrines and temples but the big draw is the deer which roam free in the park.  There's about 1300 of them and they are protected since they are considered messengers of the gods.

You can pet and feed the deer but you must be careful because they get very aggressive when they see that you have deer cookies in your hand.  One bit me on the thigh because I wasn't giving the cookies out fast enough.  I just started throwing the cookies at the deer to stop them from rushing me. Here's Henry cornered by 3 of them.

The park also contains one of the largest Buddha statues in the world housed in the largest wooden building in the world.

I don't think the pictures do justice to just how large this statue is.  One of the pillars in the building has a hole in it.  The hole is the size of the statue's nostril.  It is said that those who can fit through the hole will attain enlightenment in their next life.

Henry nailed it.  We can file this under "things Henry can do that Butch cannot."

After deer and the giant Buddha, the day was declared a success so we decided to take a rickshaw ride through the park. We assumed this was a horrible tourist trap and had very low expectations.  It turned out to be quite fun.  The driver was an amusing guide telling us many stories about the deer including the deer hospital and deer ambulance in the park.

Japanese street food for lunch.

We are now back relaxing at the hotel.  This is our last night in Kyoto.  Tomorrow morning we take the bullet train to Tokyo.  Early morning train because we have a baseball game at Tokyo Dome in the afternoon.
