It's been a memorable week traveling in Japan. We fly home back through Dallas. All of our flights are currently on time.
It's time now for the trip awards:
Best Activity: Deer Park in Nara. Not even a contest. Runner ups: Baseball and Mortal Blitz at the Sega building.
Best Meal: Chef Oba sushi. This was really an activity and a meal.
Best Hotel: The Four Seasons in Kyoto. Aman has the Wow! factor because it's 33 floors above Tokyo but the service was just not as good as at The Four Seasons. The Four Seasons also had better and more choices for food and was more prepared for kids. Aman had much better location as it is 2 blocks from Tokyo Station and directly above a metro stop. Aman lost points for lack of hot towels at meals, breakfast and horrible beds but gained points for location and bathroom.
Best Hotel Breakfast: The Four Seasons. Again not a contest. A buffet rarely loses to ordering off the menu. The breakfast menu at Aman was also limited to American or Japanese breakfast with the American breakfast offering only egg dishes.
Best Hotel Pool: Henry and I have agreed to disagree on this one. I voted for Aman because it is on the 34th floor, is longer and just an overall better pool. Henry liked The Four Seasons pool better because it was slightly warmer and had hot tubs and relaxing centers. Aman pool is for swimming and The Four Seasons pool is for relaxing.
Best City: No conclusion. Tokyo and Kyoto are apples and oranges. Kyoto is more about history while Tokyo was more about fun.
Best Train: This one is going to surprise you because it's not the bullet train. While the bullet train was great, our favorite train was the Nara Express because it was very similar to a New Orleans streetcar.
Before we leave you, we do need to include at least one picture of a toilet.
The Toto toilets are probably unfamiliar to any of our readers who don't work at Google. Yes, the lid opens as you approach and there is a control panel for washing, drying and deodorizing.
Our flight is 11 hours long which should be plenty of time for us to pick our next destination. It's a big world out there.
This is our last Japan update unless something amazing happens.
