After a wonderful early morning walk on the beach and swim in the Gulf, we packed up and headed over to George M. Steinbrenner field for the Yankees Spring Home Opener. Today is Butch's birthday. Given that I went with him to buy the Camaro on my birthday, it is only fair that we go to a baseball game on his birthday.
A beautiful day for baseball...
Spring Training sized flag for the pre-game ceremony
Stanton looks great in pinstripes. The crowd welcomed him with a huge ovation.
We are currently at the airport waiting for our flight back to the cold.
There is an MLB park in both Miami and Tampa which we've not been to yet so we will definitely be returning. We will happily stay at both the Faena and The Don Cesar upon our returns.
Here are the trip awards:
Best Hotel: Too hard to compare. They were all nice but none were perfect so we can't pick a single winner.
Best Hotel Bar: Faena. No contest. The others had only those sweet island style drinks.
Best Overall Hotel Food: Faena. Mostly because of the variety.
Best Breakfast: Again hard to compare. Both Breakers and Don Cesar had buffets. Breakers had the better buffet. Faena breakfast was also very good. Olive oil orange pancakes and interesting variation on the eggs benedict.
Best Dinner: Cari's house. Home-cooked meal almost always trumps a restaurant especially when traveling.
Best Activity: Not being cold.
Best Beach: Don Cesar. Sand is like powder and the water was calm enough that we could actually go swimming.
Hope you enjoyed this trip. Next major trip is Chris and Henry's Japanese Adventure in May.
