First stop - South Beach

It was an uneventful trip from NYC to Florida. When it comes to the airlines and the airports, "uneventful" is the best we can hope for.

We stopped at the famous Versailles Restaurant on our way from the airport to the hotel.  I know it's a touristy place but the food was really good.

After lunch, we checked into our hotel and immediately went to the beach.  We are staying at the Faena. The hotel is very nice and north of the crazy scene in lower South Beach. However, I have not been that impressed with the service.  I'm hoping they were just distracted with the high volume of people arriving and leaving on this holiday.

After the beach, we stopped for a cocktail at the hotel bar where I promptly got into a fight with a woman.  She asked if I minded if she smoked. I said 'Yes." She said "Well, I'm going to smoke anyway." To which I responded "Why you'd even bother to ask then?" And then things escalated. Butch just sat there sipping his drink and laughing.  Oh well... you can take the girl out of NYC but...

Newly invigorated, we next rented some bikes and rode around South Beach.  Not the best biking we've ever experienced.  I promptly got us quite lost.  Thank God for Google Maps.

We checked out some of the other famous hotels and spots during our bike ride. We returned the bikes and walked the 15 blocks on the beach path back to our hotel.  We are currently relaxing before dinner at Barton G's.  Jackie recommended the restaurant.  Something about it being "a scene."

Tomorrow, we have an Everglades tour and more beach and pool.
