Welcome to the Jungle

Butch would have hated the flight to Flores.

Besides the propellers, it was incredibly bouncy.  It scared me and I rarely get scared on a plane.

I know I keep saying this but Las Lagunas is the best hotel yet. I have my own bungalow on the lagoon.

Today, I have a tour of Tikal which is the thing I most wanted to see in Guatemala.

I'm writing this while eating breakfast.  The one thing I've learned about the food here is to not say "yes" when they ask if you want tomato and onion with your scrambled eggs.  It's not "with"; it's "in."  The dish becomes a not appealing mush of eggs, tomato and onion.  Other than the egg fail, all the food has been really good.  It is similar to Mexican food - grilled meats, rice, beans and the most glorious guacamole you've ever had - except that it is not spicy hot.  The serve all the spicy chiles in sauces on the side.  And the tortilla... they are almost worthy of their own blog entry.  The place we had lunch yesterday had 2 ladies making the tortilla as you order them out of black corn cooked on a wood fire.
