Goodbye Guatemala. Hello Belize.

Today was mostly a travel day.

In the morning, I had a boat ride around a few coves of Lake Peten Itza which is the largest lake in the Yucatan.  We didn't see the giant crocodile but we did see turtles and iguanas.  I have to admit that I get bored with boat rides after about 10 minutes.

I taught my guide all about AirBnB.  He had never heard of it.  I showed him all the listings for the area and told him he can run an entire business with just his phone.

Quick visit to the wildlife rehabilitation center.  It's sad.  Most of the animals are those that people thought would make good pets until the animals became big enough to be dangerous.  The poor puma looked so sad because he has been with humans his whole life and cannot be returned to the wild.  Hopefully, they will find a zoo for him to spend his remaining days.  The jaguars are almost ready to be released back to the wild.  Why are people so stupid?  A dog is not a good enough pet?

This ocelot has only 3 legs.

After the wildlife center, they drove me across the border into Belize and I spent a few hours hanging around the tiny airport terminal at the border.  It's just one small building with a nice porch and great wifi.  Here I am hanging out at the airport

Here's a good reason that Butch did not come on this trip.  Not only is this a tiny plane but it was the milk run. We made 2 stops en route to San Pedro.

San Pedro reminds me of any of the large cruise ship towns in the Caribbean.  Bars, restaurants and shops selling tacky souvenirs.  Golf carts to get around.  But, wait for it..., the hotel is great.  You take a speedboat for 10 minutes past all the tacky stuff to this great resort at the end of the island.  I have my own little bungalow on the beach.

Tomorrow, I spend the morning snorkeling. I hope the weather is good,
