The Luna Salada Hotel should be called the Flintstones hotel. Everything is made out of salt blocks including the furniture!
The bed was as comfortable as sleeping on salt blocks is expected to be. The food is ok. Breakfast and dinner are both buffets. Not sure if it's the location but they don't spare the salt in the food. Incredible breads and fruit at breakfast. Presumably the chef has an old copy of Family Circle because we had Oreo pie and Ambrosia for dessert last night. (Ring. Ring. It's 1980 calling. They want their dessert back.) On the plus side, we had llama meat for dinner last night. It is a red meat with the same consistency as beef but tasted more like lamb and not gamey like venison.
The guides drove us out to the salt flats this morning to see the sunrise. The salt flats do not disappoint! At 4400 square miles, it is almost the size of Connecticut. Some of the flats are covered in an inch of water which creates the most amazing reflections of the sky.
That is salt we are standing on. Not ice. It looks like that as far as the eye can see.
Later this morning, we will spend more time on the flats and see how they process the salt.
