Hello Zheng

The trip from JFK to Charleston was uneventful which is exactly as travel should be. Nothing like the boring predictability of an on time flight and an easy trip to and from the airports.

Upon landing, we immediately stopped for a late breakfast at the first restaurant on my Charleston restaurant list.  There are so many good restaurants in Charleston that it will be hard to hit many of them during our short stay. There are only so many meals in a single day.  Anyway, Park Cafe did not disappoint. I had a smoked chicken salad with grapes and pistachios. Right? Pistachios!

Sitting next to us at breakfast was a woman named Zheng who is also a total Charleston foodie.  She wrote down a bunch of restaurant recommendations for us on the back of our receipt.

We are staying at the Belmond Charleston Place.  It's quite nice, you can't beat the location and they allow dogs.  In fact, I just came up from the lobby and there were 2 big dogs playing off their leashes in the middle of the lobby.

Butch and I wandered around the neighborhood by the hotel while we waited for the rest of the family to arrive from Raleigh.  Dog statue outside of the fire department

The Belmond has a number of bars including a bar by the pool on the 4th floor. I'm loving the beer taps at The Thoroughbred Club.

We had dinner at The Grocery in the Upper King Street neighborhood.  In addition to excellent food, they have a very inventive cocktail list.  We even had a celebrity sighting (Owen Wilson).

We finished the evening with a late night graveyard and ghost tour.  Stay tuned for more Charleston fun.
