Leaving early was the correct decision. The snowstorm is now predicted to be quite significant and JetBlue has already cancelled the flight we were supposed to take Thursday morning. Our friends are scheduled to fly to Antigua on Friday morning. It is unfathomable that this has happened 2 years in a row. Mel Brooks described it best: “Hope for the best. Expect the worst.” Butch and I will have a day to ourselves in Antigua but I’m confident that we will find something exciting to do.
These snow events are exactly why I prefer a larger airline to a smaller one. JetBlue has a single flight to Antigua and only on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. They do not have the resources or flexibility to get you to your destination in the event of bad weather. By contrast, American Airlines has multiple flights per day including the overnight-in-Miami combination we are using for this trip. You should consider more than just price when selecting a flight.
We landed at 8:30 pm so we checked into the hotel and quickly grabbed a cab over to South Beach. We had a wonderful dinner at Joe’s Stone Crab. I was not sure if I liked stone crab so I asked the waitress many, many questions including how to eat them. Turns out I’m a big fan.
After dinner we walked around the area near Ocean Drive. Miami is definitely a place worth spending more than a few hours.
Surprisingly enough, this was Butch’s first time in Florida. He’s finally been to every state on the East Coast.
So far so good for our flight to Antigua tomorrow morning.
Blog Missed Connections: To that guy whose power adapter I was admiring, I ordered one before we were wheels up at JFK.
